Advice for Buying Used Car Parts

Opting to buy used car parts is a great way to ensure you get great quality parts but at a portion of the price. It is important to remember that used car parts are second hand, and so it is unrealistic to think they will be in pristine condition. However, you should be made aware of the parts condition before you make a purchase.

Encountered Issues

There are a number of frequent problems encountered by those who buy used car parts.

  • Some customers accidentally purchase the wrong parts. This can be because they have asked for the wrong thing or have not handed over enough information for what they need. You should ensure you provide the make, model, registration number, fuel type, gearbox type and part number.
  • Many people say their vehicle is still experiencing problems after purchasing a new part. For example, a new engine needs purchasing but the same problem develops after it has been fitted. It is important for you to find out the cause of the problem and deal with this before replacing any parts.
  • If the parts you have received are not as you expected, for example if you have purchased a second-hand engine but it hasn’t included the starter motor, you may have to buy these separately. It is important to not assume that all parts will be supplied; ask beforehand to guarantee you get these too.

It is vital that you take good care when installing used car parts into your vehicle and if possible, you should ask a professional to do it for you. If anything happens to go wrong with your used car part, you should contact your supplier immediately. They will be able to offer you advice and help to resolve any issues quickly.
